Tenerife Nightlife

Despite the belief that no one goes out in Tenerife until after 10.00, early to mid evening is actually a very busy time for restaurants. It is in the bars that the crowds begin to gather from mid evening onward. Of course for the clubbing crowd, their scene will not even begin until after midnight.

In all areas of the island there is a mix of activities to suit all ages and tastes, everything from folklore shows, to Elvis impersonators, from karaoke bars to foam filled clubs featuring some of Europe’s top DJs.

It is in the south of the island, in particular Playa de las Americas, home of the legendary Veronicas, where the 'loud crowd' hang out, but even here a real variety of venues does exist and much of planning for that evening is best done while walking the resort during the day.

It may be a little more sedate further north, but the expansive Plaza del Charco is certainly a night hot-spot, with some great cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs. Whereas Santa Cruz has gained a growing reputation for being a real live music centre, with everything from rock, pop, classic, jazz and Spanish on offer.

For serious shopaholics, late night shopping in the main centres is another feature of night life on the island, while there are always an abundance of mobile street vendors on hand should you have forgotten to bring your sunglasses out – at 11.00pm!

While the dress code for most bars and clubs is really very relaxed, bare chests are a no-no and in some places beach wear in the evening can also be a problem.
